The Issue
Democratize AI; Protect People Not Big Tech
Artificial intelligence and emerging technologies will reshape every sector of the economy within a generation. The question is not whether that transformation happens. It is how we will be able to put people at the center of this transformation. Regulation won’t hurt innovation and the expansion of human knowledge. It will help protect us from the harms we know will come from this technology. Without strong public oversight—where states and the federal government work together—AI will accelerate inequality, eliminate jobs without creating new ones, hand unprecedented power to a small group of unaccountable corporations, and destroy our planet.
Our Promises
Institute a token-based, productivity tax and direct the revenue to workers displaced by automation, and require companies to give workers advance notice of AI-driven layoffs
Mandate transparency for frontier AI models, including disclosure of known risks, potential for misuse, and capabilities for mass harm
Establish a nonpartisan federal agency or department that would enforce a national floor for frontier AI models, mandatory transparency requirements for high-risk AI systems, independent auditing for algorithmic bias, and strict prohibitions on the use of AI in life-altering decisions without meaningful human review, while empowering states to create innovative solutions to AI regulation
Require data centers to cover the costs of increased electricity usage and constrain water usage so it does not impact the water reservoirs that serve Jersey City, Newark, and the neighboring cities
Prioritize safety and dignity around use of AI systems, including specific penalties for AI-generated child sexual abuse content, parental controls for child AI use, chabot oversight for mental health risk factors, and protections against deepfakes (metadata standards, tracing capabilities, and penalties for distribution of deepfakes that causes reputational or economic harm)
Champion comprehensive federal data privacy legislation that gives individuals ownership and control over their personal data, bans the sale of sensitive personal information, and gives regulators real enforcement power against Big Tech
Fight to break up monopolistic control of the internet economy, restore net neutrality, and expand affordable high-speed broadband access to every community in NJ-08 as a public utility
