Housing & Development

The Issue

Build More. Lower the Rents.

We are in the worst housing crisis in a generation. Rents are climbing, homeownership is out of reach for millions, and families are being pushed out of the communities they built. The crisis is not accidental. It is the result of decades of underinvestment, exclusionary zoning, and policies that prioritize speculators over tenants.

Our Promises

  • Seek major federal investment in affordable housing by expanding the National Housing Trust Fund, strengthening and expanding rental assistance programs, enacting strong federal tenant protections and habitability standards, and creating a federal social housing program modeled on successful international examples

  • Support legislation that rapidly increases the supply of affordable housing by banning exclusionary single-family zoning at the federal level, providing incentives for transit-oriented development, and expanding support for first-time homebuyers

  • Crack down on corporate housing speculation, including limiting institutional investors from purchasing single-family homes, ending algorithmic rent-setting collusion, and closing the tax loopholes that reward housing hoarding over homeownership
