Education
The Issue
Cancel Student Debt. Invest in Public Schools.
Mussab was elected to the Jersey City Board of Education at 20—the youngest elected official in Jersey City’s history. As Board President, he raised teacher salaries, canceled school lunch debt, and remediated over 300+ water fountains that had lead contamination for over 15 years. He knows what real investment in education looks like.
Our Promises
Cap child care costs at no more than 7% of family income, restore the fully refundable Child Tax Credit, and treat child care as public infrastructure: federally funded, universally accessible, and held to strong quality and wage standards
Propose federal legislation creating universal, free pre-K and Kindergarten, universal free school lunch from K–12, and significant federal investment, to raise teacher pay nationwide and strengthen public school funding
Eliminate student debt, including robust income-based repayment plans, expanded Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and a dramatic increase in Pell Grants and scholarships to move away from debt-financed higher education
Oppose the privatization and defunding of public schools and resist any federal effort to redirect public funds to unaccountable private or charter institutions
